According to the final poll results released by Eric Gimei, the Bugiri District Electoral Commission registrar on Friday last week, Siraji Lyavaala polled 27,354 votes representing 47.9% while Luba Bumali came second with 27,197 votes representing 47.6%.
Lyavaala emerged winner of the hotly contested race beating his closest rival Luba Bumali, the Forum for Democratic Change â�" FDC candidate by 157 votes. Lyavaala garnered 27,354 votes representing 47.9%, while Bumali got 27,197 votes representing 47.6%, according to results declared by Eric Gimei, the Bugiri District Returning Officer.
It came several hours after the duo was reportedly kidnapped by six men from their home in Bwole cell in Bugiri town council in the wee hours of Sunday morning.
