The Oilers who started the best of seven final series with a 3-1 lead had slowed down as UCU closed the gap 3-3 to keep their hope for finals alive. However, in an enormously packed MTN Arena-Lugogo, the Oilers put up a strong fight to lead three quarters of four.
The Mukono based side lost to Power last Wednesday 56-59 in a hot contest of the National Basketball league game one. However, UCU Powered by David Kongor Deng made a comeback on Sunday night at the Lugogo MTN Arena as they shocked Betway Power in the last three minutes of the game.
KIU struggled in both shooting and layups for the entire quarter. KIU’s late return in the fourth quarter could not change the game results. KIU put up a formidable show at the last minutes of the game to lead the final minutes of the game 15-8.
The charged warriors led the first half of the game 18-16 and 16-13 before the UCU side maintained a 15-15 tie by the end of the third quarter. The last quarter however, saw the UCU side widen the gap with an 18-11 win to give them a final 62-60 lead against the unbeaten Warriors.
In an early ladies game played at the same venue, YMCA Lady Hamsters stopped Makerere University Sparks 66-57 in a yet another entertaining game.
YMCA’s Millicent Otieno had 18 points and three rebounds, while Makerere’s Ruth Nangiro had 15 points, 7 rebounds and 1 assist.
