International Womens Day and national celebrations will be held in Mityana district under the theme: Empowerment of Rural Women and Girls: Challenges and Opportunities.
Mercy Munduru , a Senior Advocacy Officer FIDA Uganda says the international Womens day celebration should be used to rekindle the push for the marriage law, which has been pending for over fifty years.
This gap can be linked to the undervaluation of the work women undertake and of the skills required in female-dominated sectors, discrimination, and the need for women to take career breaks or reduce hours in paid work to attend to additional care responsibilities such as child care, the report says.
