Government has revived its call for the relocation of Luzira Prisons with the Justice and Constitutional Affairs Minister Kahinda Otafiire saying the facility should not be located in the capital city.
Nakawa Chief Magistrate James Ereemye visited former presidential candidate Dr Kizza Besigye in prison after his continuous pleas to the court that his rights were being violated.
Speaking to journalists shortly before the tour, Eremye said the visit is to brace the judiciary with the concerns which affect the prisons service. He says the DCC had made earlier plans to visit the detention center as part of its circuit.
The Uganda Prisons department is still hunting for a prisoner who escaped from Luzira Upper Prison 37 years ago. The prisons authorities still hope to re-arrest Sergeant Lawrence Sokoro and charge him for escaping from lawful custody.
