Report: Inaction May Fail MDG On Reduction Of Child Mortality

The 2013 progress report, titled Committing to Child Survival: A Promise Renewed, states that if no action is taken to fast-track reduction in the deaths of children under 5 years of age, as many as 35 million more children could die, mostly from preventable illnesses, between 2015 and 2028. This is despite the fact that between 1990 and 2012, global child deaths fell from about 12.6 million to 6.6 million annually.

UGX 94M Allocated to Purchase Sanitary Towels for Women Inmates human rights 6 1 Top story

In the Internal Affairs Ministerial Policy Statement 2013/2014, 400 million shillings had been allocated for all sanitary requirements inclusive of sanitary pads, soap and razor blades. The allocation stems from the Uganda Prisons’ vote function of prison and correctional services, welfare and rehabilitation. Out of the 400 million shillings, the Ministry has now allocated 94 million for sanitary pads only.
