Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga has this morning deferred a heated debate on the plight of teachers in regard to their salary increment of 20% to next week. In her ruling she also directed that the Finance Ministry co-operates with Parliamentâ€™s Budget committee in the process.
The 2013 progress report, titled Committing to Child Survival: A Promise Renewed, states that if no action is taken to fast-track reduction in the deaths of children under 5 years of age, as many as 35 million more children could die, mostly from preventable illnesses, between 2015 and 2028. In the Internal Affairs Ministerial Policy Statement 2013/2014, 400 million shillings had been allocated for all sanitary requirements inclusive of sanitary pads, soap and razor blades. The allocation stems from the Uganda Prisonsâ€™ vote function of prison and correctional services, welfare and rehabilitation. Out of the 400 million shillings, the Ministry has now allocated 94 million for sanitary pads only.
