Internet was cut off last night just a day after President Kaguta Museveni told the country that they had disabled social media after Facebook blocked accounts of a number of National Resistance Movement-NRM supporters and influencers. Facebook accused them of using their platform to spread propaganda and influence the Election.
He said in a phone interview that they have tested the internet and it's working perfectly. This despite a shutdown which affected the entire country, when the government moved to block access to the Worldwide web.
At least 1,423 boxes of ballot papers, basins and lamps were dispatched from the designated centre in Nakawa at 10:30 pm on Wednesday evening from where it was driven to holding centres in constituencies. The material was then supposed to be delivered to the different polling station by 6:20 am this morning.
At the main gate of the prison, all persons seeking entrance into the facility were required to present the slip as proof that they are supposed to vote at the designated polling station. Those that could not present a slip were stopped from entering the gate.
Addressing journalists at the National Tally Centre in Kyambogo, Byabakama said that a new polling date in the Constituency will be announced. He equally appealed to the respective candidates and voters in the area to remain calm as they wait for a new polling date.
