The tunnels were discovered at the home of George Odeke who was digging a pit latrine, raising concern amongst residents of Kokong village and its neighbours that the tunnels could be exposing them to danger.
George Odeke, a resident of Kokong Village in Kapir Sub County discovered the tunnels while digging a pit latrine in his home about three weeks ago. The existence of the mysterious tunnels was exposed through social media on Sunday evening.
Isaiah Tumwikirize, the government’s principle geo-physician on Wednesday said the earth movement detectors deployed would remain at the rock for two weeks as the specialists study patterns of earth movements beneath and around the rock.
James Ojangole, the area LCI chairperson said that for the last one week, the rock has been discharging frightening blasts accompanied by smoke, mostly during hot afternoons. He said none of the rocks surrounding the village had ever shown such signs.
