Kenneth Tukamushaba, the Officer in Charge of Kagadi Central Police station told Uganda Radio Network on Thursday that Bagonza placed several announcements on Local Radio stations in Kagadi on Monday announcing the mysterious disappearance of his daughter and also filed a complaint with police.
As Sarah started working on Hafasimaana, she started bleeding profusely leading to her death. Her newly born baby also died minutes later. Some of the residents immediately informed Lillian Ruteraho, the Kagadi Resident District Commissioner-RDC about the incident prompting her to swing into action leading to Sarah’s arrest.
Deo Obura, the Albertine regional Police Commander-RPC told Uganda Radio Network on Monday that the suspects whose particulars have been withheld by police for fear of jeopardizing police investigations were arrested in a joint operation mounted by the Uganda Peoples Defense Forces-UPDF and the police over the weekend.
Julius Hakiza, the Albertine Region Police Spokesperson told Uganda Radio Network that the two armed men disguised as clients who need to withdraw money from a mobile money operator and Centenary Bank agent identified as Apollo Muhumuza, 26. He was held at gunpoint and ordered to surrender all the money he had in his possession.
According to Akello, the cases of witchcraft are common in Kagadi town council, Rugashali, Pacwa, Nyabutanzi, Mpeefu, Muhorro, Kinyarugonjo, Mabaale, Kyaterekera, Kiryanga and Muhorro Sub counties among others.
The incident happened at around 8: 30 p.m. on Thursday when the attackers hacked the two relatives with machetes on the head, chest and face. They also left a seven-year-old, Enock Asaba critically injured.
A nurse at Kagadi General Hospital told URN that the man in his 40s was rushed in critical condition to the health facility by police who found him dumped by the road side in Kyenzige Cell Kyenzige Town Council-Kagadi District last Saturday
Julius Hakiza, the Albertine Region Police spokesperson, says that by the time police received information about the attack, it was too late to pursue the thugs. He says detectives recovered two bullet cartridges from the crime scene as exhibits.
