The neighbourhood, which hosts two main opposition leaders; Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu of the National Unity Platform and Dr Kiiza Besigye, of the Forum for Democratic Change-FDC political party, was earmarked as a security hotspot, during preparations for the swearing-in ceremony of President Yoweri Museveni, currently taking place at the Kololo Independence Grounds.
Police used teargas and live bullets to disperse the charged supporters and drove off via Namugongo-Kira-Seeta up to his home in Magere in Kasangati Town Council. Several people who had escorted Kyagulanyi followed suit.
Angume was injured by a tear gas canister fired by his colleague targeting the protesters. Luke Owoyesigire, the Deputy Spokesperson Kampala Metropolitan Police confirmed the officer was injured but didn’t divulge details.
