The Rwenzori East Regional Police Spokesperson, SP Nelson Tumushime says the suspect, Jimmy Muhindo, a resident of Katonzi Cell in Nyakabingo III Ward, Bulembia Division in Kasese Municipality was arrested following intelligence information.
On Monday, Maj. Bilal Katamba, spokesperson for the UPDF Mountain Division and Operation Shuja, reported that the rescue occurred following a confrontation with ADF rebels at River Asefu in North Kivu province on Sunday.
Mumbere had gone to serve as a house helper in one of the homes that was brought down by the landfill killing the occupants. He had been sent out to buy sugar before the incident happened.
Nelson Tumushime, the Rwenzori East Regional Police Spokesperson only identified one of the suspects as Patrick Masereka, 48, a resident of Kilembe Sub County.
Rwenzori East Regional Criminal Intelligence Officer Bonny Oyesigye told URN that between 2019 to February 1, 2022, the security teams in the district also recovered 105 ammunitions and arrested 17 suspects. There were 20 cases of aggravated robberies reported in the district in 2019 alone.
ASP Ismail Kaawo the acting Rwenzori east Police spokesperson told URN reporter on Friday that the five are charged with account of trying to overthrow a legitimate government after finding them with documents calling for an uprising.
