2 More Police Officers Killed in Kasese Unrest kasese fighting 1

In the latest incident, two officers attached to Kisinga Police Station in Kakando Sub County were stabbed to death at the police station. Earlier in the day, two police officers were killed at Maliba Market in Maliba Sub County, where they had reportedly gone to arrest some of the Rwenzururu royal guards who were hiding there.

Nyabaghole Agnes Ithungu, the wife of Rwenzururu king Charles Wesley Mumbere, was today briefly held and searched at Fort Portal Central Police Station. The police searched her car and confiscated knives and batons belonging to her royal guards.

StanChart CEO Defends Non-Capping of Interest Rates 1

Speaking at the just concluded Uganda International Oil and Gas Summit UIOGS, Herman Kasekende said there are a number of structural issues that keep interest rates in Uganda high. He singled out the benchmark Central Bank Rate CBR which at 13 percent affects all other lending rates which cannot fall below it. He said if the CBR falls further, that should translate into lower interest rates.
