The finance ministry has halted the recruitment process of over 4,700 teachers by the Ministry of Education. The education ministry had kick-started the process of recruiting teachers for secondary schools across the country with a recent advert calling for applications.
The opposition Forum for Democratic Change FDC party has fronted candidates to contest for elective offices in Bunyangabu district. Last week the Electoral Commission announced August 29th as voting day in the newly created districts which started operations in July this year. FDC has often come under criticism from a section of its supporters for lacking grass-root structures especially below the district level.
The plan by Uganda Scouts Association to plant trees and protect the environment comes amidst reports that the country has lost nearly a third of its forests in the last two decades and could lose most of its tree cover in about 40 years unless measures are taken to reverse the situation.
Some voters in Oyam South, Oyam district, are up in arms against Lands Minister Betty Amongi over the proposed amendment of Article 26 of the Constitution to enable government to compulsorily acquire land for public projects. But some angry voters in the area call her a total disgrace to the constituency and Lango sub region for advancing a proposal that they say seeks to rob people of the only asset left for their livelihoods.
Karamoja International University KARIU, the first university in Karamoja sub region is set to start lectures soon. The University located in Alerek Sub County, Abim district, along Abim- Kotido road, sits at Alerek Progressive Secondary School premises.
Public officers or pensioners who do not have the National Identification Card will not be paid salaries, according to a directive from government. The Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development has directed the Ministry of Public Service to ensure that with effect from August 2017, no public officer or pensioner without a National Identification Number or NIN is paid salary.
Several voters were turned away today at the Kenya High Commission in Kampala where they gathered to vote in the countrys general elections. There was tight security manned by the Uganda Police personnel. By reporting time, about ten people had been turned away after they were told they couldnt vote from Uganda since their names were reflected in Kenya.
Bayo told court they intend to amend the charge sheet so that the suspect appears in high court. Amony who had earlier in pleaded guilty to the charges, said she requires proof that the flat iron she used to inflict injuries on the maids is indeed a deadly weapon as claimed by the prosecution.
