Finally, the D-day was here and the sixteen were ordained at a function held at St. John’s seminary kiburara, Kisinga Sub-county. It was led by Rt. Rev. Francis Aquirinus Kibira the Bishop of Kasese Catholic Diocese.
NRM had dominated the Kasese Municipality Mayor’s seat since the creation of the municipality ten years ago. According to the official poll result, FDC’s Chance Kahindo Sibyavugha garnered 11,572 votes defeating NRM’s Godfrey Kabbyanga Baluku Kime who polled 10,937 votes.
Bishop Baluku replaced Bishop Jackson Nzerebende Thembo, who voluntarily retired last year, after serving for 17 years. Nzerebende had replaced the Bishop Emeritus Zebedee Kahangwa Masereka who led the diocese from inception on August 24, 1984.
There was a heated contest between the incumbent, John Katura Musana and his sole rival Tom Maate Wa’bukombi. The election was characterised by heavy security deployment in the town council because of the high tension between supporters of the rival camp.

Up to 63 lives have been lost over the last one week, most of them Royal Guards shot during the raid on the Palace on Sunday. Police says they have recovered 14 guns, most of which had been stolen from security installations. Also recovered were army uniforms, spears, machetes, medals, improvised bombs and arrows, among others.
