The match had sparked hopes of a competitive local derby, as both teams were previously based in Lugazi and had been drawing support from the area’s vibrant youth fan base.

BUL FC has asserted dominance over their former hosts, Lugazi FC, after defeating them both home and away in their Uganda Premier League clashes. In the first leg, Lugazi FC fell 2-1 to BUL at their home ground, the Lugazi Stadium in Buikwe District.
The match had sparked hopes of a competitive local derby, as both teams were previously based in Lugazi and had been drawing support from the area’s vibrant youth fan base. However, BUL FC’s commanding 4-0 victory in the return leg on Tuesday dispelled any doubts about the gulf in experience between the two clubs.
Now based at the FUFA Technical Centre in Njeru, BUL's growth and stability have made them a formidable side in the top flight. Football analyst Isa Isabirye, based in Buikwe District, believes BUL’s consistent performance over the past decade gives them a natural edge over newly promoted sides like Lugazi FC.
"BUL's decade-long experience in the country's top flight league and finishing in the top four positions consistently accords them an advantage over new league comers like Lugazi FC," said Isabirye.
Still, he acknowledged the potential of emerging teams, stating, "Young teams like Lugazi have an opportunity of creating new legacies, if at all stakeholders consistently play their roles in helping them to grow in both talent advancements and infrastructural facelifts."
In Tuesday’s match, Abdul Karim Ndugwa netted twice for BUL, while Ibrahim Orit and Hillary Onek each added a goal to seal the emphatic win.
BUL's assistant coach Simeon Masaba praised his squad’s focus and preparation. “The boys were prepared to score extensively and march off the pitch with a decisive win, which they did,” he said, adding that such victories help BUL maintain a strong presence among the league’s top contenders.
Looking ahead, Masaba expressed confidence about their upcoming fixture against NEC FC. “The squad is ready to earn a comfortable win from our opponents away from home,” he stated.
Meanwhile, Lugazi FC’s head coach, Gerald Efiti attributed their defeat to a lack of ball control and organization.
“We lost the game largely due to our inability to contain the ball, and BUL manipulated such gaps to score easily,” he explained.
Despite the setback, Efiti remains optimistic. “Our technical team has already identified the gaps, and we will rectify them ahead of our faceoff with URA FC,” he added.
