This morning, heavily armed Anti-riot police officers and patrol vehicles deployed strategically in the middle of Wakiso town and along the road heading to the court via the district headquarters.  The officers are screening the people in vehicles and on foot before allowing them to continue with their journey.

The officers tasked those seeking to access the court premises to identify themselves before they are allowed in or turned away. Those who had turned up to follow up their matters in the court were asked to return to their homes without checking whether their cases have been cause listed or not.

“I am on court bail, which is expiring today. I feel I should enter court to either have it renewed or have my case heard,” one of the court users pleaded with the officers at the gate to allow him in vain. He was however advised by a police officer to go away, saying even the responsible magistrate wouldn’t turn up. Only a few journalists and lawyers who properly identified themselves and a few civilians were allowed to access the court premises.
