Kapchorwa district has registered two Monkeypox cases. Dr. Sirajji Masai, the District Health Officer, confirmed that the two cases involve a 32-year-old from Kayimelil Cell, Central Division in Kapchorwa Municipality, and a 29-year-old from Kwomo Cell, Chema Sub-county,
According to Dr. Masai, both victims have been placed in an isolation ward at Kapchorwa Main Hospital, where they are receiving treatment. Dr. Masai urged the public to remain cautious by avoiding large gatherings, handshakes, and other activities that could facilitate the spread of the disease.
"The community is informed that we are dealing with the disease, and it is their responsibility to follow preventive procedures, such as avoiding body contact with people whose health status they do not know," said Masai.
Martin Sakajja, the Kapchorwa Deputy Resident District Commissioner, stated that the Mpox response team has implemented measures to prevent further spread of the disease. “We have directed all social places and gatherings to provide water, soap for handwashing, sanitizers, and also to avoid handshakes,” Sakajja said.
The new cases have caused panic among locals in the two town councils and the entire district. However, the prompt intervention by the district health team has helped to manage the situation effectively.
