Special Forces Command (SFC) have arrested 14 people for
blocking President Yoweri Museveni's motorcade and plucking off the National Emblem
from his vehicle. This incident according to security sources happened in Kansanga
as Museveni headed to Entebbe State House.
Although Maj Jimmy Omara, the SFC Spokesperson said he
was not aware of where and when the incident happened, sources have identified
the 14 people who have since been arrested by SFC and currently detained at
various police stations.
“The group had hidden themselves at Rubis petrol
station located in Kansanga, and others had disguised as pedestrians. They abruptly
blocked the President’s motorcade at around 11:30 am. They rammed into
his convoy and it was a scary situation,” security sources said.
The suspects arrested by SFC include Janet Nabukyu,
Shafiq Lumu, Joshua Kalema, Sharif Nsubuga, Tom Kayanja, John Mawejje, Jimmy
Katumba, Robben Holiday, Annet Nanfuka Namugerwa.
Other suspects include Jennifer Mukisa, Kato Kimbugwe,
Elidad Nakabugo, Gladys Nasolo, William Kamala William and Sharif Mutebi.
“An
order has since been given to ensure that both police and SFC keep civilians at
a sufficient distance when the President is moving to avoid the occurrence of the
same incident sources said.
The suspects’ case has been recorded under traffic
offence reference TSD 16/10/02/2025. However, another case file from the same
incident has been recorded as CRB 170/2025. “The CRB 170/2025 is for those who
plucked the National Emblem from the President’s vehicle. This has been
referred to as malicious damage,” sources added.
Incidents of blocking President Museveni’s motorcade were
started by Bodaboda 2010 then inspired by their patron Abdullah Kitata. They would
do so whenever police conducted operations targeting criminals in the boda boda
industry and forced them to register.
Museveni later gave a directive to the SFC and police
never to allow Kitata’s group to block his motorcade again.
The 2010 group was
dismantled in January 2018 after Kitata and other members were arrested for
illegally possessing lethal weapons meant to be a preserve of the armed forces.
Later on, Gen Edward Kale Kayihura
who was then IGP was also sacked and subsequently arrested and charged in the military tribunal. This was the end of the infamous Bodaboda 2010 militia.
