A minor has drowned in Kanyampara water channel in Kanyampara I Village in in Munkunyu Sub County in Kasese District.  Two-year-old John Mumbere drowned on Friday evening in the channel, which connects River Kanyampara to Nyakatonzi while playing with friends.

His lifeless body was recovered from the stream in Kacungiro parish by residents on Saturday evening. The minor reportedly drowned around 4:00pm but residents notified police around 7:00pm after searching for the minor in vain.

It’s allegedly that the child escaped from a neighbor’s place where his mother had taken him as she set out to perform some errands in the trading center. The minor’s father, Paul Aliganyira was also away from home at the time of the incident.  Mumbere’s grandfather, Mark Expedito told URN that deceased’s body was recovered 1km away from where he drowned from. He suspects that the minor tried to play in the waters and was washed away.
