Col. Nakalema’s Father Rev. Serwadda Laid to Rest in Kashari

In his eulogy delivered by the Vice President Maj. (Rtd) Jessica Alupo to thousands of mourners, president Yoweri Museveni thanked the late Rev. Eliasafu for having laid a strong moral and spiritual foundation, for his children.

The body of the late Rev. Eriassafu Serwadda, the father of Col. Edith Nakalema, the Head of the State House Investors Protection Unit (SHIPU), has been laid to rest in Kashari, Mbarara district Wednesday. Rev. Serwadda passed away on Saturday, February 8, 2025.

In his eulogy, delivered by Vice President Maj. (Rtd) Jessica Alupo to thousands of mourners, President Yoweri Museveni expressed his gratitude for the legacy left by the late Rev. Serwadda. He commended him for laying a strong moral and spiritual foundation for his children, which has greatly influenced their lives.  

The President spoke of Rev. Serwadda’s deep-rooted connection to the revival movement, a religious tradition that taught Christians to fear God and love one another. He said Rev. Serwadda instilled these principles into his children, adding that he had observed these values in Col. Nakalema, who is disciplined, hardworking, and patriotic.  

President Museveni praised Col. Nakalema’s contributions to the nation, highlighting her role in leading the State House Investor’s Protection Unit, and commended her for her service. "This is a sad moment for the family and the church, but we take comfort in the fact that the scripture assures us that death is not the end for believers," Museveni remarked, referencing Thessalonians 4:14. 

He conveyed heartfelt sympathies to Col. Nakalema and the entire family during this time of loss.  In her emotional eulogy, Col. Edith Nakalema expressed deep sorrow over the loss of her father but also celebrated his life, referring to it as one filled with love, wisdom, and unwavering faith. 

She urged mourners to not only grieve but also to celebrate the life of her father. She thanked friends and well-wishers for their support and asked them to continue praying for the family.  The sendoff ceremony began with a service led by Rt. Rev. Onesmus Asiimwe, Bishop of North Ankole Diocese, assisted by Rt. Rev. Michael Lubowa, Bishop of Central Busoga Diocese, and Rt. Rev. Dr. Fred Sheldon Mwesigwa, Bishop of Ankole Diocese and Chancellor of Bishop Stuart University in Mbarara.  

In his remarks, Rt. Rev. Dr. Mwesigwa celebrated Rev. Eriasafu’s steadfastness, mentioning his commitment to marriage for 54 years and the God-fearing, hardworking children he raised.

The mourners paid their last respects to a man who had made a significant impact on his family, the church, and the community at large.
