Founded in 1954, the Democratic Party is Uganda’s oldest political party. However, it has faced internal friction since party president Norbert Mao signed a cooperation agreement with the ruling NRM government two years ago—an action that many DP leaders have criticized for undermining the party’s autonomy and founding principles.
The fate of Alitia and other aspirants now lies in the hands of the DP National Delegates Conference scheduled for May 2025, where candidates for various elective positions will be officially chosen and endorsed.
