Driver of Kiwatule Accident Truck on the Run - Police

The driver of the truck registration number UAX 495m took off from the scene after his lorry hit and damaged nine cars and two motorcycles on Thursday morning. Eight people sustained serious injuries and one succumbed to death yesterday. Police identified the deceased as William Matovu, a bodaboda rider.

The police are yet to establish identities of the driver of the truck that was involved in an accident along the Ntinda-Kigoowa-Kiwatule stretch on Thursday.

The driver of the truck registration number UAX 495m took off from the scene after his lorry hit and damaged nine cars and two motorcycles on Thursday morning. Eight people sustained serious injuries and one succumbed to death yesterday. Police identified the deceased as William Matovu, a bodaboda rider.

Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigire has told Uganda Radio Network that the search is on, for the driver who is still on the run. He also dismissed reports that up to four motorcyclists had lost their lives during the accident. He said that so far, only one death has been recorded.

Police also said all seven accident victims were receiving treatment from various hospitals around Kampala.

Rita Nimusiima, a staff at Kampala Independent Hospital where some patients had been admitted told URN that four of the cases were referred to the National Referral Hospital in Mulago for better management.
