Nakapiripirit police are currently holding Denis Komakech, 35, accused of exhuming the remains of a child in Kopedur village, Moruita Sub County. Komakech, a builder in Lokona village, Nakapiripirit town council, allegedly removed the remains of a baby girl from a grave in August 2023.

The incident began when Mukurina Leese, the suspect's wife, suffered a miscarriage at seven months at Nakapiripirit Health Center III. The suspect had no land to bury the child, so the in-laws permitted him to bury the remains on their land. However, tensions arose on November 27, 2023, as the in-laws demanded the removal of the deceased child from their land.

This led Komakech to exhume the body and take it to a river in the bush. Michael Longole, the Mt Moroto regional police spokesperson, confirmed the arrest, stating that the suspect was apprehended carrying something in a polythene bag after being reported by Teresa Lorot. He said investigations are ongoing vide CRB308/2023, and once concluded, Komakech will be charged for disturbing the peace of the dead.

In a related incident, police in Nakapiripirit district are pursuing suspected warriors involved in the killing of Peter Loyep, aged 43, in Karinga village, Moruita Sub County. Loyep was shot and killed using a bow and arrows on Tuesday night after suspected warriors attacked his home to steal chickens. Reportedly, Loyep, upon hearing noise from his chickens, went outside to check and was shot by unknown individuals suspected to be Karimojong warriors.

He sustained severe injuries on his left thigh near the private parts and was found unconscious. Rushed to Tokora Health Center IV, he was pronounced dead on Wednesday morning. Security forces are actively searching for the suspects, and once apprehended, they will face the law. Longole condemned the killing, emphasizing the joint effort of security forces to ensure the perpetrators face justice.
