St. John XXIII Hospital Aber, the only Hospital in Oyam District has received a boost of 10 million Shillings from President Yoweri Museveni. Kampala Capital City Authority Minister Betty Amongi delivered the money during the hospital Golden Jubilee celebrations held on Sunday.

President Museveni was expected to grace the celebrations but didn’t show up because he was away in Togo for the Continental dialogue on the criminalization of the sale of fake drugs in Africa.

In a written speech read by the Minister, Museveni reechoed his message of healthy eating and exercises for good health, saying many people eat a lot without exercising.

On her part, Amongi emphasized the need to prevent diseases at the household level, saying her new responsibility has taught her a lesson.

She pledged 3 million Shillings on top of the cash donation of  2 million Shillings she made to support the roofing of one of the buildings at the hospital, which she says is not good enough for a hospital with that status. The Hospital’s Vision is to have a healthy and reconciled life for all individuals, their families and the community.

Earlier on, Dr Tom Charles Otim, the Chairperson Board of Governors St. John XXIII Hospital explained that the hospital’s overall goal is to contribute to improved health of the people in its catchment area. He says they are focusing on prevention and strengthening provision of holistic care services to improve the health status of the population.

Bishop Sanctus Lino Wanok, the ordinary of Lira Diocese, said health service provision is an aspect of evangelization.

It has annual OPD attendance of 27,827 contacts, 6,800 Admissions and 1,700 average annual maternal deliveries with a C/S rate of 21 per cent.
