The bus then lost control and collided head-on with the oncoming Isuzu Elf, resulting in two fatalities and twelve injuries among the passengers.
Two people were killed and twelve others sustained severe injuries in an accident involving three vehicles at Bujaabe village, Nakitoma Sub-County, Nakasongola District, along the Kampala-Gulu highway on Tuesday evening.
The vehicles involved in the crash included an Isuzu Elf with Registration Number UBP 557B, an Isuzu bus belonging to the Nile Star Bus Company with Registration Number UBD 215R, and a Toyota Hiace commuter taxi with Registration Number UBR 783N. The deceased individuals have not yet been identified.
One of the victims was the male driver of the Isuzu Elf, who died at the scene.
The other victim was a young child traveling in the Toyota Hiace, who succumbed to injuries shortly after arriving at Kiryandongo Hospital. Fatal road accidents remain a concern in Nakasongola along the Kampala-Gulu highway. On Christmas Eve 2024, at Kapaburuuli in Migyeera Town Council, Nakasongola District, six people died in an accident and six others sustained injuries.
This crash involved an Iveco trailer with Registration Number SSD 797A/SSD 323, a Toyota Hiace commuter taxi with Registration Number UBQ 356F, and a Toyota Premio with Registration Number UAX 554L. Twiineamazima said, “The trailer had stalled on the highway due to mechanical failure while facing Kampala.” A speeding taxi from the Gulu direction collided with the stationary trailer, causing it to overturn and hit an oncoming Premio from the Kampala side.
Police responded quickly, evacuating the injured to Nakasongola Health Center IV for treatment. The bodies of the deceased were also taken to the same facility for autopsy.
In a related incident in September 2024, an unidentified man was killed in a hit-and-run at Kyakala Cell, Migyeera Town Council. Preliminary investigations revealed that the victim was struck by a speeding saloon car with Registration Number UBP 668C while crossing the highway.
Additionally, on the same highway, at Kakondi village in Wabinyonyi Sub-County, another crash claimed two lives and left one person injured. This collision involved a Toyota Hiace commuter taxi with Registration Number UBL 232G, a Bajaj Boxer motorcycle with Registration Number UFG 032M, and a bicycle. The deceased in this incident were identified as 62-year-old motorcyclist Ssemwanga Steven and 17-year-old cyclist Nakalumba Shadia.
