The communities in Kalangala Town Council suffered severe devastation from a powerful storm that struck early Saturday morning. Four people, including a police officer, died instantly, while at least 20 others sustained serious injuries in the storm, which ravaged five villages—Kifuufu, Buggala Mwena, Kizzi, and Kalangala A—on Buggala Island.

The storm destroyed over 300 houses and several institutional buildings, including the Kalangala Central Police Station and police communication equipment. It also uprooted numerous trees across the town council. Residents say such a strong storm has not hit the area in a long time.

They note that such disasters usually occur on the more deforested outer islands, where the impact can be just as severe. Uganda Radio Network shares images from the scene, capturing the aftermath of the disaster.
