The Ibanda District Police Commander, Emily Angomoku, says he was informed on Sunday evening that the suspect had hanged himself in police cells. “We have started investigations in the suicide as we wait for a postmortem report,” he said.
A suspect has committed suicide in the cells of
Keihangara Police Post in Keihangara Sub county Ibanda District. Robert
Baguma, a resident of Kyarukumba Cell Keihangara Sub County was funding dangling
in the police cells on Sunday morning following his detention on Saturday
evening.
The deceased, who was locked up for stealing a bunch bananas
reportedly used a piece of cloth he tore from his shirt to end his life. The Ibanda District Police Commander, Emily Angomoku,
says he was informed on Sunday evening that the suspect had hanged himself in
police cells.
“We have
started investigations in the suicide as we wait for a postmortem report,” he
said. Francis Kariyo, the Keihangara Sub county LC 3 Chairperson attributes the
suspect’s death on negligence by the officers who stay away from the station duty
during night hours.

chairperson attributes the incident to the poor state of Keihagara Police Post
building. He says the building was previously an office, which was only turned
into a police post.

This is the second time a suspect has committed suicide in
Keihangara Police Post cells.
