Tanzania Warn Uganda Hippos Ahead Of Cecafa U-20 Challenge Cup Quarter Final Clash

After topping Group B on Thursday, Tanzania will now travel to Gulu to face Uganda Hippos in a quarter final clash on Sunday at the Pece War Memorial Stadium.

Tanzania’s head coach Zeberi Katwila has warned that they are determined to stop Uganda Hippos at the quarter final stage of the Cecafa U-20 Challenge Cup.

After topping Group B on Thursday, Tanzania will now travel to Gulu to face Uganda Hippos in a quarter final clash on Sunday at the Pece War Memorial Stadium.

“We know what to expect against the hosts, but I have a good balanced team that is capable of winning the trophy,” said a confident Katwila.

In their last Group B match against Zanzibar on Thursday Tanzania scored a hat-trick through Kelvin Pius John, while Lusajo Elukaga Mwikenda and Novatus Disnas Miroshi also picked a goal each. Zanzibar had Mudathir Nassor Ali sent off later in the second half.

To reach the knock out stage Tanzania started with a 4-0 win over Zanzibar before they drew 2-2 with Kenya and followed it up with a 5-0 win over Zanzibar. The finished with the same points with Kenya, but qualified as table leaders on Fair Play basis as they accumulated less cautions than Kenya.

Uganda Hippos finished third in Group A after drawing 1-1 in their opening match against Eritrea before they won 5-1 against Djibouti. The Uganda Hippos went on to draw 2-2 against Sudan.

The other quarter final matches to be played on Sunday will see Sudan face their brothers from South Sudan in Gulu, while Burundi take on Kenya and Eritrea face Zanzibar at the Fufa Technical Center in Njeru. The semi finals will be played on October 2nd, while the play-off for third place and the final take place on October 5th in Gulu.

The regional tournament that has attracted 11 teams is sponsored by the Federation of International Football Associations (FIFA).
