At least 120 houses have been submerged by floods in Obira Parish, Got Apwoyo Sub County in Nwoya district. This follows
heavy rains being experienced in the district in recent days.
Patrick Okello Oryema, Nwoya district LCV chairperson says they have
also received cases of houses collapsing as a result of the floods submerging over
60,000 hectares of land in the district.
He identifies the most hit sub counties as Got Apwoyo,
Alero, Lungulu and Purongo.
According to Oryema, they have tasked the local leaders to
document and carry out assessment of the level of destruction by the floods
that have hit the district before they are submitted to the Office of the Prime Minister.

Denis Atube, the LCIII chairperson Lungulu Sub County says so far
25 houses have collapsed over the weekend as a result of the impact of the floods
on the walls of the houses.
Atube says several people have contacted him for relief support, mainly
tents and blankets and food since their food has been destroyed by the
disaster.
Last month, several acres of food crops were destroyed
by floods in Gulu district.
