21 Arrested in Kabale for Defying Presidential Directives

The suspects were arrested during an operation on Wednesday that was conducted in Bugongi in Northern division, Kekubo in Central division and Mwanjari in the southern division, Kabale Municipality.

Police in Kabale district has arrested 21 people for defying presidential directive on public gatherings.

The suspects were arrested during an operation on Wednesday that was conducted in Bugongi in Northern division, Kekubo in Central division and Mwanjari in the southern division, Kabale Municipality.

Brian Ampeire, Kabale District Police Commander, says that the suspects were found gathered in bars drinking alcohol.  Ampeire says that during the operation many of the people who were in bars drinking and dancing fled but others were too drunk to run.

 Ampeire adds that the suspects are being detained at Kabale central police station and will be aligned before the court to answer the charges of disobedience of lawful orders.

Meantime, eight vehicles were on Wednesday impounded by security authorities in Kisoro municipality for defying presidential directive on public transport.

Christopher Ruhunde, Kisoro district police commander says that despite several warnings and sensitization about the ban on public and private transport, some people defied and continued driving. Ruhunde says that all the drivers fled but the vehicles were towed to Kisoro police station.
