Angry Mob Lynches Young Man

Angry residents stoned Wanzu to death at around 5:30am on Wednesday morning. An employee at Budumbuli Guest house, which is found in school village, told URN on condition of anonymity that the suspect broke into the managers office.

Angry residents of Bugembe town council in Jinja district have lynched a young man for attempted robbery at Budumbuli Guest house. The deceased is 25-year-old, Hassan Wanzu, a resident of Wanyage Lake village in Mafubira Sub county in Jinja district.

Angry residents stoned Wanzu to death at around 5:30am on Wednesday morning. An employee at Budumbuli Guest house, which is found in school village, told URN on condition of anonymity that the suspect broke into the manager's office.

“We don't have a security guard so we decided to call for help from the passersby who pulled him outside the gate and stoned him to death," she said. He says two other suspects who were hiding behind the Gate escaped as more people gathered around the guest house.

Alex Mugabi, the Chairperson School zone, says he was informed about the mob justice by his neighbor but by the time he arrived at the scene Wanzu was already dead.

Sam Taremwa, the Officer in Charge of Bugembe Police Station has confirmed the mob incident and appealed to residents to avoid taking the law in their hands.

Police have handed over Wanzu's body to Jinja Regional Referral Hospital for postmortem.
