At least 4,270
teachers from different learning institutions in Lira city has received their COVID-19
jabs. The teachers were drawn from the Government and private education
institutions including primary
and secondary schools, tertiary and universities within the City.
The vaccination is in line
with the government
decision to vaccinate all teachers before reopening education institutions early
next year. According
to the breakdown, 1089
teachers are fully vaccinated, while 3,215 received their first dose against the targeted population of 5557 teachers.

Bernard Otucu, the Lira City Principle Health
Officer acknowledged the fact that most teachers had already received COVID-19 jabs using AstraZeneca
before the Ministry came up with the mandatory vaccination exercise.
Otucu called upon teachers who have missed out
on the Sinovac vaccine to remain patient as efforts are underway to have more
vaccines delivered to the City.

City is excited that he has received his full dose and urged unvaccinated teachers to ensure they do so.

Nickson Odur, another teacher says that he is convinced that the vaccine is helpful
and wants the rest of the teachers to follow suit.

The City had received 1,600 doses of Sinovac for
teachers receiving their first jab. The city is currently out of vaccines.
