Buruuli Chiefdom Cabinet Sworn In

A new cabinet was appointed in May and approved by the clans council in last month, paving way for the administration of oath conducted by Nakasongola Grade 1 Magistrate Jackline Kagoya in the presence of Isabaruuli Mwogezi Butamanya last evening.

The newly appointed Ministers in Buruuli Chiefdom have been sworn in ending a leadership vacuum that started after the dismissal of the chiefdom cabinet 7 months ago. 

The Cabinet was dissolved by Isabaruuli Mwogezi Butamanya, the cultural head of Buruuli in December 2014. They had reportedly refused to endorse his proposal to make the Buruuli cultural throne hereditary.

Since then, Buruuli Chiefdom activities were overseen by George Ongom, an elder who was appointed Chairperson of the interim committee.

A new cabinet was appointed in May and approved by the clan\'s council in last month, paving way for the administration of oath conducted by Nakasongola Grade 1 Magistrate Jackline Kagoya in the presence of Isabaruuli Mwogezi Butamanya last evening.

The cabinet consisting of 43 Ministers and 51 advisors is headed by Silvesteri Banumba Bugalalyo, a retired accountant in Uganda Revenue Authority as Prime Minister. He replaces Erukamu Kwebeya.

Other members of the cabinet include Denis Muyomba as the 1st Deputy Prime Minister and Minister in charge of projects, Martin Etyang as Finance Minister, Yosam Ssesanga-the Attorney General, Sarah Nakamya in charge of Agriculture and Production and Onesmus Katarikawe, the Lands Minister.

The others are Engineer Ssenozi Wajja-the Education and Sports Minister and Samuel Kaweesi – as the new Information Minister among others.

The newly appointed Prime Minister Silvesteri Banumba Bugalalyo said promoting unity among subjects and mobilizing funds to revamp poverty stricken chiefdom are the key priorities for his tenure.  Banumba says that the chiefdom needs funds to reinvest in real estate and agricultural production.

Deputy Prime Minister Denis Muyomba said the new team will also focus on ensuring that there is cooperation between Buruuli and Buganda Kingdom. He however hasten to add that this will be based on mutual respect.

In his speech, Isabaruuli Mwogezi Butamanya warned the ministers against laziness and betrayal adding that instead they should strive for the independence of Buruuli chiefdom.

This is the third cabinet to be sworn in since coronation of Isabaruuli Mwogezi Butamanya on December 10, 2004.
