Police in Rukungiri are holding in their custody five people over the murder of a 63-year-old man suspected to have been killed by his relatives.

Kigezi Regional Police Spokesman Elly Maate has confirmed that the 5 people arrested are all relatives of Twebaze Yoramu, the slain resident of Nyaruhungye village in Kikongi Parish in Bwambara Sub County in Rukungiri District.

Maate says that Twebaze has been having a long standing family  wrangle with his family over land issues after his son identified as Ndyabagye Ivan demanded that he should be given a share where to build his own house.

It reportedly took the intervention of the Area LC 1 and LC 2 Chairpersons to compel the old man to give the son a piece of land where he could build a house.

It is reported that Twebaze was last seen alive on Sunday September 13th 2020 at the home of one Ngabi, together with Ezera Niwagaba and Kishaija Stanley, until this morning Wednesday, when his dead body was recovered in a eucalyptus tree forest along the way to his home.

This prompted the Police to arrest his wife Kwarija Slivia, his son Ndyabagye and the 3 men  Nuwagaba, Kisheija and Ngabi, whom he was last seen with the on Sunday.

Maate said that a case of murder by strangulation was registered at Rukungiri District Police Station under reference number CRB 1713/2020 to help in investigations.
