5 Judges, Kenyan Lawyer to Vet New Basamaba Cultural Leader

According to the letter, the search committee is mandated with validating the nomination and election process of the new Bamasaba cultural leader. The search committee will work in liaison with the General Assembly, Culture Council, Secretary General, the Attorney General of Inzu yamasaba and Bamasaba stakeholders.
Umukuka's letter
Inzu Yamasaba, the Cultural institution of the Bamasaba has constituted a search committee for the next Umukuka comprising 5 justices and a Kenyan lawyer.  The committee members were named in a June 24th letter signed by Bob Mushikori, the outgoing Bamasaba cultural leader.     

“As per article 8.4 and 7.1.6 of Inzu Ya Masaba Constitution and subsequent consultations with all stakeholders I hereby appoint the following Bamasaba to take a key role in validating the election of Umukuka III of the Bamasaba” the letter partly reads.    

The members are Justice Lawrence Gidudu, the Head of the Anti -Corruption Division, Justice David Wangutsi from the Commercial Court, Wilson Masalu Musene, Justice Paul Wolimbwa Gadenya, Lady Justice Margret Mutonyi and Professor Nixon Sifuna Wanyama, an Advocate in the Kenyan High Court.  

According to the letter, the search committee is mandated with validating the nomination and election process of the new  Bamasaba cultural leader. The search committee will work in liaison with the General Assembly, Culture Council, Secretary General, the Attorney General of Inzu yamasaba and Bamasaba stakeholders.  

Mushikori’s term of office expires on November 15, 2020. The election of his successor was affected by the Covid19 pandemic, which saw government restrict public gatherings. Mushikori succeeded Ambassador William Wamimbi who retired in November 2016 who retired before completing his five-year term.

Inzu Ya Masaba brings together the Bamasaba in Uganda and Babukusa in Kenya.
