Five soccer teams in Kabale are gearing up to participate in the FUFA Zone Six football tournament to be held in Rukungiri on May 9th.
Kabale's Football Technical Chairperson, Dennis Tushabe, says Horizon FC, Mountain Gorilla FC, Fulham FC, Maziba FC and Katuna FC have registered for the tournament. He says all give teams have shown exceptional skill and capacity to be competitive in any major league.
Tushabe reasons that Kabale's ability to take its largest-ever number of clubs to a competition is an example of how much the game of football has matured in the district.
Each of the teams participating in the Zone Six football tournament will be required to pay its own 150,000-shillign registration fee, cater for its transport, feeding and lodging.
Richman Mugisha, coach of Mountain Gorilla FC, says the financial burden is very heavy on them. He says pleas to have the registration fee reduced fell on deaf ears from FUFA, which argued that the money was needed to pay for players' allowances.
Mugisha says his team is working on innovative ways to stay within budget and yet participate fully in the tournament. Players will carry their own mattresses and cooking utensils to avoid the costs of lodging and food.
