500 Blocked From Joining UPDF in Bukedi Over Forged Documents

The recruitment exercise that was held on Saturday at Tororo Police Primary School grounds also attracted candidates from the neighboring regions of Mbale and Bukedi North who tried to sneak in using forged National Identity Cards.
More than 500 youths have been blocked from joining the Uganda People's Defense Force -UPDF in Bukedi South sub-region for presenting fake documents.

The exercise that targeted 83 recruits from the three districts of Tororo, Busia and Butaleja received an overwhelming turn up at Tororo Police Primary School grounds on Saturday.

It also attracted candidates from the neighbouring regions of Mbale and Bukedi North.

But those from other regions were all thrown out, on account that many of them had presented fake  National Identity Cards. A sizeable number of applicants also had fake academic papers, according to Telesphor Turyamumanya, the Spokesperson of the UPDF 3rd Division.

"This time around we were not interested in confiscating forged academic papers and arresting owners but instead, we immediately chased victims out of the grounds’’ he said.

The ten-day exercise which ends today is intended to recruit a total of 4,000 people from all districts of Uganda as both professional and regular soldiers.

The professionals include Doctors, Nurses, Engineers, Lawyers, Teachers, and those holding UACE certificates majoring in science subjects.
