60 Iganga Health Professionals Suspended Over Practicing Licences

Dr David Muwanguzi, the director of medical service Iganga district has confirmed receiving the letter from the council suspending the affected health professionals.

The Allied Health Professional’s Council has suspended 60 medical workers in Iganga district over lack of practicing licenses. The affected medical workers include laboratory assistants, clinical officers, dispensers, health assistants, health inspectors, entomology assistants, ophthalmic clinical officers and physiotherapist amongst others.

 

In a December 14, 2013 letter, addressed to the Iganga Chief Administrative Officer and medical director, Dr Musa Musaaaya, the supervisor Allied Health Professional’s Council Jinja region says the affected health personnel have been practicing illegally since their licenses expired three months ago.

 

He explains that all health professional are required by law to secure a license, which authorizes to serve the public. In the letter Dr Musa Musaaaya instructs security to apprehend any of the suspended medical professionals found operating without getting clearance from the council.

 

Dr David Muwanguzi, the director of medical service Iganga district has confirmed receiving the letter from the council suspending the affected health professionals. He has promised to recommend the sacking of the affected health personnel for professional misconduct. Muwanguzi says he has also been renewing his license with the allied health professional’s council and wonders why the affected medical didn’t renew their licenses yet they are aware that is a prerequisite.

The Allied Health Professional’s Council was established in 1996 by an act of parliament. It is charged with the registration and licensing of Allied Health profession and Publication of names of registered professionals in the gazette amongst other responsibilities.
