61 Refugees Intercepted At Busia Border

They fled Kyaka Refugee Camp in Kyegegwa district. They were intercepted by Busia border security personnel in a Bus at the entrance of the one-stop border post.

61 refugees have been intercepted at Busia border as they were crossing into Kenya.

The Rwandan and Burundian nationals reportedly fled Kyaka Refugee Camp in Kyegegwa district. They were intercepted by Busia border security personnel in a Bus at the entrance of the one-stop border post.

John Rex Achila, the Busia Resident District commissioner-RDC says that security personnel managed to intercept the refugees after receiving information from whistleblowers. 

He says that they realized that the refugees were attempting to cross into Kenya following the allegations that the Kenya government is closing up all refugee camps and the authorities are giving financial support to those they are discontinuing to stay in Kenya refugee camp so that they can be relocated elsewhere.

Achila says that they have a challenge of one missing refugee girl aged 15 years who got lost when an unidentified boda-boda rider disappeared with her since was attempting to cross the border through porous points.

David Ntole, Iman Chihahibwa among other refugees says that they fled Kyaka refugee camp due to mistreatment and insufficient food to feed their families. Ntole says that they were trying to cross to Kenya to look for good hospitality.
