Three Held Over Murder of Old Woman

70-year-old Mariam Kabaigereka, a money lender and resident of Nseese village in Mijwala sub-county was attacked around 12:30am on Monday night.
Sembabule police are holding three men in connection with the murder of a business woman.

70-year-old Mariam Kabaigereka, a money lender and resident of Nseese village in Mijwala sub-county was attacked around 12:30am on Monday night.

Her 10-year-old grandson says two men wielding a knife and machete burst into the house and cut the old woman's neck. They also stabbed her several times in the chest, back and stomach as the little boy watched helplessly.

The killer stuck a stick in the deceased's left ear before they disappeared on a motorcycle to unknown destination. The minor informed their neighbors who found the deceased's lifeless body lying in a pool of blood.

The neighbors inform the local authorities who in turn notified police. A team of police officers led by Samson Obicho, the Sembabule District Criminal Investigations Officer rushed to the scene and tried to track the assailants with a sniffer dog in vain.

At least three people have been arrested after being found in possession of a blanket, mattress and mobile phone that were taken from the deceased's house on the fateful night. Two of the suspects are Sam Ndyabarema, 28 and Wasswa, 35. They are locked up at Sembabule police station.

Despite pleading innocence in the murder, Obicho maintains that they are directly connected to the horrifying incident.

Fredrick Wamala, another detective says Ndyabarema and Kabaigereka once entered a partnership of money lending and split up last year following misunderstandings over profit sharing.

He says Ndyabarema has been complaining and accusing the old lady of taking his profits hence plotting to end her life. In December last year, four people were arrested for killing a 40-year-old Christopher Lubega of Lugusulu village in Lugusulu Sub County.

The assailants waylaid their victim and strangled him before dumping his body in the bush where it was found.
