Abim Hospital in Black Out Over Accumulated Bill

Vincent Okee, a resident of Abim district is disappointed that patients cannot access the services they need because of poor financial management by the hospital leading to the power disconnection. He calls for a forensic investigation into the hospital management.

Midwives and nurses at Abim Hospital in Abim district are helping mothers to deliver new lives in the dark. This follows the decision by Pader Abim Multipurpose Electric Cooperative Society Limited-PACMECH to disconnect power supply to Abim Hospital paralyzing major operations, x-ray services and the cold chain system.  

The absence of power for almost a month has also affected blood testing, medical examination and other health investigations. Pader Abim Multipurpose Electric Cooperative Society Limited – PACMECH disconnected power to the facility three weeks ago because of an accumulated power bill for the past five months worth Shillings 10.5 million.

Charles Okema, the Technical Officer Pader Abim Multipurpose Electric Cooperative Society Limited, says the company decided to disconnect electricity supply to the hospital to compel the administration to pay.  

Dr. God Mercy Abele, the Medical Superintendent Abim Hospital, said they were using a generator and the problem will be fixed with immediate effect this week.

A senior district official who spoke to URN on condition of anonymity said they have called on state house anti-corruption unit to investigate the management of the hospital over embezzlement but declined to give details.
