Religious leaders in the Acholi Sub Region on Thursday held a mass prayer for Speaker of Parliament, Jacob Oulanyah.

Under their umbrella, National Fellowship of Born-Again Pentecostal Churches of Uganda, hundreds of the believers congregated at the maiden Gulu district administration office in Gulu City seeking God`s intervention to heal Oulanayah who is in the US receiving treatment.

Led by Bishop James Ocan, the Overseer of the Born-again Churches in Acholi Sub Region, the believers say that it is only through God`s intervention that Oulanyah will be healed and comforted from the pain he is undergoing.

The believers also held prayers for comfort for the Parliament of Uganda, Oulanyah`s constituency, and the people of Omoro as well as leaders from the Acholi and country at large.

Some of them held placards labeled; ‘’Hon. Jacob Oulanyah we are praying for your quick recovery.’’, ‘’There is power in prayer Hon. Jacob Oulanyah receive your hearing.’’, ‘’And the Prayer offered in Faith will make the sick person well. James: 5:15.’’.

They also raised one million twenty-seven thousand and eight hundred shillings to be extended to the family of Oulanyah through the Gulu Resident City Commissioner, Francis Rwotlonyo.

The religious leaders described the contribution as a symbol of interest to visit the Speaker in the hospital but they are incapacitated since he is far away.

Pastor Bonny Opoka, one of the clerics urged leaders in the country to work without segregation of status in society, take away selfishness, avoid tribalism and put justice at the center of daily activities.

The prayer ceremony drew political, security, heads of political parties, and opinion leaders from across the Acholi sub-region, as well as hundreds of believers from different denominations.

A section of the attendees also criticized those whom they claimed are rejoicing by the unfortunate health conditions of the Speaker.

Christine Olok, the Deputy Mayor for Gulu City described the intervention as timely and historic noting that if taken in good faith it will bind the people of Acholi. Olok also condemned a section of Ugandans who are rejoicing the health condition of Oulanyah.

The Speaker of Parliament Jacob Oulanyah has been in Seattle since February 5th, 2022, for specialized treatment.

Oulanyah was elected Speaker of Parliament on May 24, 2021. He flew out of the country and spent one and half months after presiding over the reading of the 2021/2022 financial year budget last June.

Democratic Party President Norbert Mao said on Tuesday that Oulanyah`s condition is stabilizing according to reports that he received from relatives and close family members.
