In December, the Agago District Commission advertised for 62 positions in different departments, but the Public Service Commission considered only positions in the education and health departments.
The Resident District Commissioner of Agago District, James
Nabinson Kidega, has halted ongoing recruitment in the district over alleged irregularities in the selection process.
In December, the
Agago District Commission advertised for 62 positions in different departments, but the Public
Service Commission considered only positions in the education and health
departments.
However, a section of
the applicants have complained about gross unfairness in the recruitment
process, prompting the RDC to halt the recruitment.
Kidega, said he received 50 complaints from applicants who were not shortlisted, regarding irregularities and unreasonable
requirements such asking for money from applicants.
Others are requesting applicants, especially in the health
sector to produce certificates and practicing license to be shortlisted, even though these requirements
are not necessary for one to be shortlisted.
Kidega cited that the
case that stands out most involves a former fighter of the Lord’s Resistance Army who was not shortlisted for the position of head teacher four times, despite
meeting all the requirements.
According to Kidega,
the applicant, who graduated from Makerere University, has failed to be
promoted from a classroom teacher to a head teacher, because some members of
the DSC, are accusing him of committing atrocities against their people in the
past.
Kidega warned the
members of the DSC against such discriminatory and vengeful acts, saying it violated
the applicant’s rights to get a job and fend for his family, and was
anti-development.

On Tuesday,
Kidega wrote a letter to the secretary district service commission, halting job interviews slated
for April 1st, 2025, until the complaints of the other candidates who were not
shortlisted are resolved.
Kidega claimed that the
complaints have become a security threat because some of the
aggrieved are planning to cause harm.
He advised stakeholders
and members of the commission to respond to the matter before it gets out of
hand.

Cosmas Okech, the
chairperson Agago DSC, noted that they follow the procedures of
recruitment the only challenge is that people pick contacts on the shortlist
form displayed and impersonate District Service Commission staff.
Okech also accused some
applicants of taking the first step to offering bribes to recruiters, saying
such applicants should be penalized for promoting corruption.

At least 1,482 applicants
have been shortlisted for various positions in the health and education
sectors. Out of these, only 180 are required to fill the positions in both
sectors.
