An angry mob has lynched a suspected cattle rustler at Panyangara Trading Centre in Kotido District after he was accused of stealing cattle from the Turkana community. The deceased, identified as Locham Atudo, was killed on Saturday afternoon, while his accomplice, Apaloko Lochu, sustained serious injuries in the attack. A third suspect, identified as Loila Muron, is currently on the run.

It is alleged that the three were caught with five head of cattle reportedly stolen from a Turkana kraal. Upon discovery, members of the community swiftly mobilized and descended on the suspects, killing Atudo on the spot. Lochu narrowly survived and was later rushed to the hospital in critical condition.

Mt. Moroto Regional Police Spokesperson, Mike Longole, confirmed the incident. He said the deceased’s body was transported to the mortuary for postmortem, while the injured suspect is receiving medical attention under police watch. “We have launched a manhunt for the third suspect, Loila Muron, who fled the scene upon realizing his accomplices were in danger,” Longole said.

He also confirmed that the stolen cattle were recovered and taken to the designated holding ground as investigations continue. Longole cautioned the public against mob justice, urging community members to report suspected criminals to the authorities for proper legal action. “We understand the public’s frustration, but taking the law into your hands is a criminal act. Let the security agencies handle these matters professionally,” he added.
