Another Consignment of Hand Hoes Goes Missing from Soroti City Stores

Police are investigating the theft of another consignment of 49 cartoons of hands hoes delivered to Soroti City through the National Agriculture Advisory Services- NAADs.

Oscar Gregg Ageca, the East Kyoga Region Police Spokesman, says that Police have opened a general inquiry file Number 15/2021 to investigate circumstances under, which the hoes valued at Shillings 11.7million went missing from the stores at the finance block at Soroti city council.  

“This is suspected to have happened on 13/07/ 2021. The scene was visited by DPC, D/CID, SOCO and a team of other detectives and the boxes of hoes were re-counted with a view of establishing and confirming the allegations. The city employees have been summoned for statement recording including the guards to help with the investigation”, he said.




According to Ageca, the theft of 49 boxes of hoes is different from the first case involving 101 boxes stolen from the same institution reported last month. He explained that police fully investigated the first case and arraigned the suspects before the court.

On June 29th, 2021, court remanded three traders to Nakatunya Prison who were arrested with some of the hoes that went missing from Soroti City stores after pleading guilty. They include Phoebe Alupo, 47, Alex Osauro, 33 and Simon Opejo, 38 who appeared before the Grade one magistrate, Fortune Nyipir.  

On July 2nd, another group comprising 14 employees of Soroti City also appeared in Court and were released on bail after pleading not guilty. The hearing of the case started on Wednesday (July 14th, 2021). In his maiden speech after taking over office on Monday, the new Soroti City Clerk, Ambrose Ocen pledged to follow the matter of stolen hoes to its logical conclusion.
