Two Ugandan athletes Jacob Araptany and Albert Chemutai will battle in the 3000m steeplechase final at the on-going IAAF World Championship in London tonight.

The duo will be eager to join Joshua Kiprui Cheptegei won a silver medal in the 10,000m final on the opening day of the Championship last Friday

“It is going to be a very tight race and any thing can happen,” Araptany said in London on Monday. In the heats on Sunday Araptany set a time of 8:25.86, while Cheptegei recorded a time of 8:23.18.

They will however face tough competition from the Kenyan duo of Ezekeiel Kemboi and Conseslus Kipruto who have the fastest times going into the final.

Meanwhile, Uganda's female athletes Winnie Nanyondo and Dorcus Ajok will finally travel to London this afternoon ahead of their races at the on-going IAAF World Championships.

“We finally secured the visas for three athletes on Monday evening, but unfortunately Alex Chesakit will not travel because the marathon already race took place on Sunday,” Godfrey Nuwagaba, the treasurer Uganda Athletics Federation (UAF) told URN on Tuesday. Tight UK visa clearance regulations require applicants to submit documents at least a month before travel.

Nuwagaba made it clear that they have now managed to get the athletes to travel on an Emirates Airlines flight and get to London in time before their races on Thursday. Nanyondo is a bronze medalist at the 2014 Commonwealth Games and Dorcus Ajok, the 2015 World University 1,500m champion.

Uganda has so far won one medal at the Championships before it comes to a climax on August 13th . Joshua Kiprui Cheptegei won a silver medal in the 10,000m final on Friday night. He recorded a personal best time of 2:49.94 to finish behind world champions Mo Farah of England.
