Club are the Champions of the FUFA Big league. The team defeated Tooro United
1-0 in the league’s finals played on Tuesday at FUFA Technical Center in Njeru.
Rashid Kawawa’s first-half strike was enough to earn the Arua based team their
first silverware. Kawawa scored
in the 25th minute to guide his team to victory.
Tooro United FC midfielder Patrick Sserunjogi was sent off in the 86th minute
after a challenge on Aggrey Kirya.
The victory ensures that Arua Hill finishes the
season unbeaten right from their regular-season games in Elgon group where they
topped to earn direct promotion.
The two sides had already earlier secured their places in the next season of Star
Times Uganda Premier League. To reach the finals, Arua Hill emerged the leaders
of the Elgon group with 30 points after defeating Paidha Black Angels 4-0 while
Tooro United topped the Rwenzori group with 31 points, after also overcoming
Kigezi Homeboys 1-0 in the final group game.
Before the final game, two other clubs, Gaddafi and Proline battled in the
playoffs to determine which team will join Arua and Tooro in the Uganda Premier
League. Gaddafi defeated Proline and took the third spot.
Gaddafi’s Steven Munguchi was named the Most Valuable Player of the season
while Nyamityobora’s Clinton Kamugisha emerged as the top scorer with 12 goals.
Richard Anyama of Arua Hill SC was named the best goalkeeper of the season.
