Arua Regional Referral Hospital is stuck with the new Computed Tomography (CT) scan machine, three months after it was installed.

In November last year, the hospital received the machine from the Ministry of Health and later installed the equipment in December.

A CT scan machine is a medical imaging technique used in radiology to get detailed images of the body for diagnostic purposes. Its normally used to identify heart disease or abnormalities, and locate injuries, blood clots, and other conditions such as pneumonia.

Hillary Onziga, the in-charge of Radiology and Imaging at Arua Regional Referral Hospital says that the CT Scan machine has not been working for the past three weeks after it developed software malfunction, but they lack the expertise to repair it.

According to Onziga although they have informed experts at the Ministry of Health about the challenge, they are yet to receive a response. He further notes that they currently refer patients who need CT scan services to Gulu and Lira Regional Referral hospitals.

Christine Angucia, an expectant mother says that she has been struggling to access CT service at the hospital for the past two weeks. She appealed to the government to expedite the process of fixing the machine since she lacks transport to go to Gulu.

“Since last week, I have been seeking CT scan services after I was referred to the hospital but I have not succeeded. Let the government help us to repair the machine such that we can begin to get services here,” she said.

Zaitun Bako who is attending to his brother notes that they are stuck at the hospital since they lack money to do a CT scan in another facility.

Emmanuel Ainebyoona, the Spokesperson for the Ministry of Health says that they are aware of the faulty machine and are engaging the supplier of the CT scan machine to fix the errors and ensure it is well calibrated.
