Arua Treason Case Suspects Committed to High Court

The accused were arrested on 13th August, 2018 and charged with treason on allegations that they were involved in the election-related fracas in Arua that resulted into damage on a vehicle in the Presidential motorcade.

Gulu Grade One Magistrate Isaac Kintu Imoran has committed to the High Court 27 of the 37 Arua suspects accused of treason.

According to prosecution, the suspects stoned one of President Museveni’s cars, smashing its hind windscreen on August 13 during the Arua Municipality by-election campaigns.

After reading the particulars of the indictment to accused persons who were present in court, Kintu committed them to the High Court for trial.

They include Arua Municipality MP, Kassiano Wadri, Bobi Wine’s bodyguard Edward Sebuufu alias Eddie Mutwe, and 70-year-old Omar Risasi Ciruson among others. The suspects appeared for the mention of their case at Gulu High Court on Thursday.

Justice Kintu also ruled that any other matter that will be arising pertaining to the exhibits belonging to the accused will be handled by the high court because reports were not ready.

He also issued a criminal summon t against 10 other suspects who did not turn up for the court before adjourning the case to 6th August.

They include Kyadondo East Member of Parliament Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine and his co-accused Francis Zaake, the Mityana Municipality MP and Michael Mabike, former Makindye MP among others.

According to the defence lawyer Tony Kitara, Bobi Wine and Zaake are reportedly out of the country attending 47th Annual Rainbow PUSH International Convention in Chicago, United States of America that started on Wednesday.
