Dr Kizza Besigye is attending in his capacity as the vice chairman of International Democratic Union IDU, a global association of centre-right political parties from 56 countries worldwide.
Dr Kizza Besigye will attend Ghana President-elect Addo's inauguration.
Former presidential candidate Dr. Kiiza Besigye has been invited for the inaugural ceremony of Nana Akufo-Addo as the new President of Ghana.
Besigye who left Uganda for Ghana last night was invited in his capacity as the vice chairman of International Democratic Union (IDU), a global association of centre-right political parties from 56 countries worldwide.
Besigye was elected to the IDU from London in November 2011, a position he still holds to date. His election subsequently granted the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), a party he once led, admission into IDU membership.
FDC publicist Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda confirmed to URN Besigye's invitation to Nana Akufo-Addo's inauguration ceremonies taking place today in the capital, Accra.
Addo defeated incumbent John Mahama Dramani in the December 7th elections. Mahama had served since July 2012 when he succeeded President John Atta Mills who died in office.
When contacted, Don Wanyama, President Museveni's Special Media Assistant could not confirm nor deny Museveni's attendance arguing that ‘it is not a must that the President should attend the inauguration.'
“You should contact Foreign Affairs Ministry because i don't sit on the Presidential Affairs Committee but I don't see anything here on his schedules.” Wanyama stated.
More than 6,000 guests are attending the inauguration ceremony of Nana Akufo-Addo according to the spokesperson for the president-elect's side, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah.
