Betway Power Wins Game One of NBL Semi-finals

Betway Power on Wednesday night stopped Uganda Christian University 59-56 to win game one of the National Basketball League semifinals.

Betway Power on Wednesday night defeated Uganda Christian University 59-56 in game one of the National Basketball League semi-finals.

In a hotly contested game played at a fully packed Lugogo MTN arena, Power captained by Joseph Ikong led the first quarter with an efficient 17-12 as the University struggled to convert 12 points.

   

 The second quarter saw UCU take a slim lead of 14-12 to close the gap created in the first quarter. UCU returned for the second half of the game-winning the third quarter 19-15 before the power side rose up to win the last quarter 15-11.   

 The Power side won the day with a slim 59-56 thanks to over five turnovers for the UCU side. UCU’s David Kongor Deng scored a game-high 16 points, while Titus Lual had 12 points. For the Power side, Joseph Ikong made 8 points, while Philip Ameny and Geoffrey Soro added 7 points each.     

 The win puts Power ahead with 1-0 in the best of seven series basketball semis. The first to win four games proceeds to the finals.

 

 In the other games, Just Kip Living (JKL) Lady Dolphins stopped Kampala International University (KIU) Rangers 54-46 in yet another thrilling game one of the ladies semi-finals. JKL led the game all the way scoring 6-3 and 18- 5 in the first half, and continuing with a 10-9 and 20-19 in the third and fourth quarter.   

 JKL’s Hope Akello scored 14 points, while KIU’s Rachel Akinyi Odhiambo scored 16. 

 In yet another major clash, the Defending champions of the National Basketball League City Oilers will face Warriors in the second semi-finals, while Uganda Christian University lady canons will faceoff with Kampala Capital City Authority on Friday.
